We tasted Baptiste Nayrand?s 2018 wines for the first time on one of our trips to Beaujolais (he was exhibiting there as an outsider) and we were genuinely impressed. His vineyards are in C?teaux du Lyonnais which is between Beaujolais and the Northern Rh?ne. His domaine was founded in 2014.
Farming is on the granitic soils and is fully organic (with biodynamic principles), vinification is without any additions.
Puits a Vin is a local phrase, describing the vines that have potential to offer a good wine, Baptiste's iteration fits this perfectly. 100% Chardonnay, aged 50% in barrel and 50% in fibreglass for 6 months. Bottled with minimal SO2. It carefully treads the tightrope of acidity vs richness, a perfect example of the impressive nature of Coteaux Lyonnais white wines.
