Nicolas and his wife Karine farm 25 hectares of vines in Corbieres, not far from the Mediterranean sea in the South of France. Having previously sold the grapes off to local negociants, Nicolas took over his family Domaine in 2000, beginning a painstaking conversion to organic and biodynamic viticulture. 'Campana' is the Occitan word for bell, which sits above the main house, and the winery adorns the labels of their 'house' wines - Campana Blanc, Rouge & Rose.
Nicolas and Karine are passionate about farming with the utmost respect for nature, having spent the last 20 years converting their vines to organic viticulture and then to biodynamics in 2018. Cover crops are used over winter, and sheep graze between the vines in summer. The vineyards face north on the Massif de Fontfroide, and vines are planted on decomposed sandstone. Fermentations are spontaneous with natural yeasts, and wines are vinified without additions.
The fruit for Rouze comes from a 1ha plot of 15-year-old vines. Fermentations are spontaneous with natural yeasts, and wines are vinified without additions. Rouze is bottled un-fined and unfiltered and with <10mg sulphur. Light and refreshing and perfectly served slightly chilled.
