BODEGAS AZPILLAGA URARTE
A family with a long viticultural tradition, Emilio Pérez de Azpillaga and M. Carmen Urarte cultivated vineyards and produced grapes for others until the 1960s and from the 1970s they began to make their own wines. Twenty years later, in the 1980s, they built a new winery and began to bottle the first brand: Viña El Pago. In 1993, after finishing his studies in Viticulture and Oenology, Eduardo Pérez de Azpillaga Urarte, one of their sons, joined the family winery with the condition that he could change the way of cultivating to a process more respectful to the environment. Accepting his proposal, they began to study, investigate and experiment in the vineyards eliminating little by little all chemical synthesis treatments.
Eduardo is a faithful follower of regenerative agriculture whose philosophy is born of the total change in the way of seeing nature. Ecologically regenerative: restores the potential of ecosystem services. Economically profitable: drastically reduces variable costs and increases yields. Socially cohesive: creates employment and local wealth and unites people around a new vision. A change in the way we relate to the land that allows us to stop losing, in a year, the same amount of fertile soil that nature takes more than 300 years to generate - that allows us to start building new living soil.
