Romain Zordan took over half of the family vineyards in 2012, the other half going to his talented cousin Yann Bertrand. Romain and his parents farm 8 hectares of old vines in Fleurie and Morgon, have been Certified Organic since full conversion in 2009. There is real sense of 'new life' in Fleurie and we believe Romain is squarely at the front of the pack, making fabulous, juice-driven wines that are a joy to drink and age exceptionally.
Romain works with natural yeasts and is a master of the new-school of long, cool carbonic macerations favoured by Chauvet, Foillard and Lapierre amongst others.
The fruit for the Beaujolais is sourced from vineyards in Charentay to the East of Brouilly, planted on granitic soil over sand, facing South East. The 80-year-old goblet vines are all worked by hand, and unsurprisingly given the age of the vines, yields are very low. Hand-picked bunches are macerated for 15-20 days. Vinification then continues with no additives. Maturation in barrel and concrete before bottling without filtering, with little or no sulphites added. A wine that punches above it appellation.
