Producer

Family-owned since 1961, Domaine S?ailles is in the commune of Mouchan in the middle of Gascony, in deepest South-West France. Jean Lab?renne converted the domain to organics in 1998, and they are now AB-certified. The family farm 24 hectares of grapes for their red and white wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Gros Manseng, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. In an area just as famous for its love of all things duck, the S?ailles also produce fantastic Armagnac from old-vine Ugni Blanc.

Farming and Winemaking

Domaine S?ailles is recognised as one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the C?tes de Gascogne. Their 7-14-year-old Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris vines cover 4 hectares on a South/Southwest hillside facing the Pyr?n?es. The vineyards have been free of chemical fertilisers, herbicides, insecticides and other synthetic chemical products since 1998. Picking is done at night to conserve freshness, then there is a little pre-fermentation skin contact to encourage texture, and the wine is raised on its lees in tank for six months before bottling. Zero oak and very little SO2 are aimed at producing a supple and super-pure wine.
