Producer
Le Grappin began in 2011 following Andrew and Emma Nielsen's five-year journey working with the world’s great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producers in California, Central Otago, Burgundy and Yarra Valley. Their vision is to work with over-looked, under-appreciated parcels around Burgundy, Beaujolais and the Rhône, cared for by fantastic viticulteurs.
Farming and Winemaking
For the 2022 50% of the grapes are sourced from the lieu-dit of Le Potet are considered one of the best parcels in Regnie, and 50% are declassified Chiroubles (they didn't want to offer a cru for just one year). Harvested by hand, sorted and placed in concrete vats as whole clusters. Kept under CO2 cover to encourage a carbonic fermentation which yields a perfumed wine. Pressed after 9 days on skins, the wine finished its alcoholic fermentation by native yeasts in concrete vats before 5 months on fine lees in stainless steel. The wine is unfined and unfiltered, and a minimum of SO2 is used.
